What would an orchestra or a choir be without a tuning fork? The classic application of a tuning fork is, of course, in music . A concert can only inspire the audience if all instruments or choir members are in harmony.

Barthelme's tuning forks have also become indispensable in therapeutic applications . The body is stimulated to heal itself through vibrations. Because everything that vibrates is also energy. By placing Barthelme's tuning forks on certain acupuncture points and meridians, the human body is stimulated to vibrate until it vibrates at the "right frequency" again. It is the same principle as the orchestra, only here the instruments are not called flute, trumpet or oboe but heart, kidney or spleen. Here too, harmony only prevails when all the instruments or organs vibrate in unison, just like in a concert.

The Barthelmes vibrations of different planets are also often used.

Phonophoresis , as this form of therapy is called, is an alternative to classic acupuncture and is used for relaxation, improving brain function, increasing physical energy and restoring balance to the nervous system. Blockages can be released and new energy is released.

Arno Barthelmes Zella-Mehlis GmbH is a family business founded in 1884 and is now run by the 4th generation. The company has always been family-owned and was already active as a manufacturer of tuning forks in its early years.

The founder, Arno Barthelmes, ran a pub with a beer garden at the same location until the 1940s. Annual shooting festivals with a big fair were held in the idyllic Albrechtsgarten.

For many decades, partygoers from all over the area came together in the Albrechtsgarten for a cool blonde beer and good German cuisine.

In the post-war years, the demand for metal processing was so great that the restaurant, which had its own shooting range, closed its doors forever. Machines for producing tuning forks were installed in what was then the dance hall.

Even during the GDR era, the only tuning fork manufacturer in East Germany remained in the hands of the Barthelmes family because the company's owner at the time, Manfred Berthelmes, refused to work under socialist leadership. However, tuning forks were an export product that earned foreign currency for the GDR, and nationalization was prevented. Even then, tuning forks were being shipped to West Germany, China, Ecuador, Cuba, France, and the Benelux countries. This high demand demonstrated the special quality of the tuning forks manufactured. The tuning forks were paid for with bananas or good Cuban oranges, for example, but all proceeds went into the GDR's state budget. At that time, up to 12 men worked in 3 shifts at peak times. Among other things, they manufactured tuning forks in large quantities for the National Volunteer Army, which used them to tune teleprinters.

Other areas of application also developed from this. Small tuning forks are also used in earthquake early warning devices, for example. Small mini tuning forks are now used for the 3-dimensional measurement of circuit boards and soldering points.

After the political changes in 1989, a new era began at Barthelmes GmbH. Developing the market required a lot of work, but over time, customer after customer was won back.

The family business today

Due to this many years of experience, we are now the supplier of tuning forks, as we already specialized in the production of particularly high-quality tuning forks back then!

We manufacture tuning forks for medical, therapeutic, educational, musical, bell analysis and other scientific purposes.

With us you will find a large selection of high-quality tuning forks that are suitable for your needs. Our family is a guarantee for reliability, precision and the highest quality!

Arno Barthelmes Zella-Mehlis GmbH has also been able to impress with its quality in other areas. The “Thuringian Golden Tuning Fork” is an award for successful artists and comes from the tuning fork factory in Zella-Mehlis, Thuringia.

We started with 3 employees and today we have grown to 30 people who work in the modern production hall that was newly built in 1999.

Since 1996, over 6 million euros have been invested in buildings, infrastructure and the latest CNC-controlled machine tools. These investments are paying off. Because all tuning forks are now manufactured with the highest precision on these modern machines. However, the fine tuning is still carried out according to historical specifications. Each fork is individually tuned by hand, just like 100 years ago. True to our motto: “We set the tone!”

The production of our tuning forks is based on over 136 years of experience in this specialist field. We place particular emphasis on a high level of vertical integration. In order to ensure consistently high quality and durability, we also manufacture most of the accessories ourselves.

We only use selected, very high-quality materials in our production. All models are carefully milled and turned from a solid block using state-of-the-art CNC machines.

Very early in the manufacturing process, the required masses and pitches are measured, taken into account in further production and continually corrected. This means that a very small frequency deviation can be achieved in the finished tuning fork.

The final fine-tuning is still done by hand today. Of course, we are also supported in this by the latest measuring technology.

Every tuning fork that leaves our factory undergoes a thorough final inspection before being released for shipping.
